Biography

Adam Stevens is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he studied tuba performance.  A native of St. Louis, Adam began playing tuba at the age of nine and has pursued a career in music ever since.  Adam graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 2009.  While attending SIUE, Adam performed as principal tubist with the orchestra, wind symphony and brass quintet.  While performing with the SIUE Wind Symphony, Adam recorded two albums, Russian Portraits and Angels in the Architecture.  At SIUE, Adam studied with Michael Sanders, tubist of the St. Louis Symphony and James Martin, an active free lance musician.  During his time in St. Louis, Adam was also a member of the St. Louis Brass Band and principal tubist with the St. Louis Philharmonic, a position he won as a senior in high school.

After completing his degree at SIUE, Adam actively free lanced and taught in the St. Louis area.  Teaching in Mehlville, St. Louis and Edwardsville, Adam maintained an active and successful studio of low brass students.  His students have received honors at Solo and Ensemble competitions, been selected to perform in All-State Honor Bands and have received music scholarships to universities.  Adam has also been sought after as a clinician and guest artist, making his solo debut at the Fort Zumwalt Brass Festival in 2009.  In 2011, he toured internationally as a featured performer with the SIUE Wind Symphony at the World Association of Symphonic Band Ensembles in Chiayi City, Taiwan.

Adam has been a featured performer in master classes with world renowned musicians.  Most recently, he has performed for Tim Buzbee, Ben Pierce and Demondrae Thurman.  This summer, he will traveled to Redlands, CA where he  participated in the highly regarded Gene Pokorny Seminar.  While at the seminar, Adam was the winner of the Pokorny Seminar Mock Audition.

Recently, Adam completed his Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa, where he studied with John Manning and was an active member of the tuba studio.  He frequently performed with the University of Iowa Symphony Band, Orchestra, Tuba Quartet and Tuba Ensemble.  Last year, he completed the recording of Martyrs for the Faith featuring University of Iowa saxophone professor, Kenneth Tse and the Symphony band.

Currently, Adam is the low brass instructor at Collinsville High School, Granite City High School, O’Fallon Township High School and Mehlville School District.  Many of Adam’s students have been successful.  Most recently, he has students that have made All-State, Bi-State, IMEA and been awarded excellent marks at Solo and Ensemble competitions.
